Check out the exciting lineup for this Sunday and previous shows.
4/14
For the April 14th program, we’ll be talking with Rod Dreher, author of The Little Way of Ruthie Leming. This gifted writer, who blogs at The American Conservative, offers a heartfelt tribute to his late sister’s battle with cancer. When she received her diagnosis at the age of 40, Ruthie Leming spent her next 19 months surrounded by loved ones in the small town she grew up in and never left — and without realizing it, the grace and courage of this modest schoolteacher showed what spiritual health can do in the face of disease. Rod Dreher presents a deeply touching meditation on faith, family, community and place.
We will also be honored to have Congressman Tom Tancredo join us in studio for conversation about the Gang of Eight, the future of immigration policy in America, and the overall state of the conservative movement. Is the Republican Party Establishment thinking clearly right now — or are they selling out their voters and their country? The battle over “Amnesty” is a sisyyphean struggle for conservatives, but we cannot underestimate its importance for the future of America.
Plus we’ll review the issue of equal pay, the subject of Kafer’s newest column on the Daily Caller, the outrageous classroom commentary of leftist Professor Darry Sragow at USC, the open desire of Bill Maher to get rid of the Second Amendment, and the astonishing media blackout on the murder trial of Pennsylvania physician Kermit Gosnell. When it comes to principles of “objectivity” in the academy and in the media, we are sensing that now — perhaps more than ever — the flagrancy of leftist bias is distorting America, and not for the better.
3/11
Matt Dunn will interview Charles C. Johnson, author of the new book “Why Coolidge Matters: Leadership Lessons from America’s Most Underrated President.”
In our continuing effort to promote the “Calvin Coolidge Revival” which is now sweeping the nation, we will celebrate the successes of America’s 30th President, which included: cutting taxes, lowering unemployment, dropping the debt, shrinking the size of government, growing the economy, lifting the middle class and in general aligning the executive branch with the spirit of the Founders. Well done Cal!
There’s many a reason why Ronald Reagan brought a portrait of Coolidge into his Cabinet Room. Though he was known as “Silent Cal,” as we discuss, our man Coolidge had a superb sense of humor. He may have been the “coolest” Republican president ever.
Also, Matt will discuss the epic Rand Paul 13-hour filibuster, and what it means for the future of the Republican Party. Where other GOP leaders seem to still be tiptoeing through the political tulips — Rand Paul is standing up, showing strong leadership, and scoring major points with America. Kudos to the junior senator from Kentucky!
And as far as John McCain and Lindsey Graham are concerned — well, perhaps it’s getting time for the “Old Bulls” to head out to pasture.
2/10
Tune in Sunday night to KNUS AM 710 from 5 to 8 pm for Backbone Radio. Krista Kafer and Matt Dunn will hit the airwaves with fresh commentary on all things political and cultural.
On the next edition of Backbone Radio, we’ll open the program with Congressman Tom Tancredo for the latest on immigration politics. What direction should the GOP take on this pressing issue? Dunn and Kafer may not agree.
Tisha Schuller of the Colorado Oil and Gas Association will join us to talk about fracking. What is all the hubbub about hydraulic fracturing? Is it destroying the environment as Matt Damon contends or a harmless technology for extracting formerly inaccessible natural gas reserves?
We’ll also take a hard look at the controversial status of Karl Rove, the enduring “guru” of Republican Politics. Now that Rove has declared war on The Tea Party, it looks like the Tea Party has formally lost patience with Rove — and, frankly, we have too. In our view, Rove has overstayed his welcome on the national stage. We’ll talk about why.
How about Senator Rand Paul’s smart speech at Heritage last week? It may be too soon to say, but Rand Paul appears to be serving up some common sense to a foreign policy establishment that really needs it. We may have an innovative leader on our hands here, folks — and not a moment too soon.
Plus we’ll review Kafer’s op-ed in the Denver Post, Chris Christie’s fondness for donuts, Eric Cantor’s tiresome clichés, and a timely new biography of Calvin Coolidge.
And of course — WOW and DOUBLE WOW — we can’t leave out Dr. Benjamin Carson’s magnificent speech at the recent National Prayer Breakfast. With a light touch and a winning smile Dr. Carson offered a splendid critique of President Obama’s debt, tax and health care policies. With the President sitting at his right hand. Hallelujah! Can we get an Amen??
We invite your calls at 303-696-1971. Listen live on 710am KNUS in Denver -Metro, or 1460am KZNT in Colorado Springs and also iHeartRADIO on your mobile device. Politics, culture and controversy — plus some groovy bumper music. Backbone Radio, the higher ground in Colorado talk radio.
1/27
Tune in Sunday night to KNUS AM 710 from 5 to 8 pm for Backbone Radio. Krista Kafer and Matt Dunn will hit the airwaves with fresh commentary on all things political and cultural.
We’ll have an important in-studio conversation with Kevin Miller about the political future of evangelical Christians. The author of “Freedom Nationally, Virtue Locally” questions to what extent the federal government should be involved in legislating virtue. In the aftermath of the 2012 election, Miller’s message is especially timely for the present moment in the culture wars.
We’ll discuss the President’s inaugural speech with its straw men, leftist priorities, and overwhelming partisan tone. Roughly half as many people watched the speech this time around. We took one for the team and tuned in.
You’re in for a musical tribute to Hillary Clinton’s testimony about Benghazi, with the Smiths’ song “What Difference Does It Make,” and another tribute to that pesky fly that walked over President Obama’s face this week with Hank Williams’ prescient “Fly Trouble.”
And what do Matt & Krista think about Women In Combat? Is it a good idea, or just another leftist experiment against reality? Meanwhile, Phyllis Schlafly is arguing against “free trade” in America. That’s a surprise.
Amidst the early posturing for 2016, we’ll discuss Senator Rubio’s immigration plans for the GOP, Governor Jindal’s plans for the GOP in general, and Senator Rand Paul’s impressive feistiness. Is anyone looking like a leader yet? Speaking of leadership, we noted that historian David McCullough rates Gerald Ford as one of America’s best all-time presidents. How so?
Closer to home, we’ll discuss the problem of rabbits chewing on cars parked at Denver International Airport, and the disturbing grime spree of Tide laundry detergent being shoplifted off of local supermarket shelves.
1/20
Tune in Sunday night to KNUS AM 710 from 5 to 8 pm for Backbone Radio. Krista Kafer and Matt Dunn will hit the airwaves with fresh commentary on all things political and cultural.
We’ll talk with guest Dick Wadhams on the future of the Republican Party and Jennifer Churchill from Colorado Parks and Wildlife on encounters with coyotes, mountain lions and bears (oh my!).
We’ll talk about President Obama’s second inaugural, with reference to the Newsweek cover story headlined: “The Second Coming.” For many on the Left, they believe their Messiah has returned. But others aren’t so sure. When Krista sees the phrase, she thinks more of the Yeats poem more than anything else. So we may have a little poetry reading tonight.
Does President Obama want to destroy the GOP? What happened to all his old talk about bringing America together?
We’ll review the Marxist philosophy of Antonio Gramsci, the 20th Century Italian who advised his fellow communists to gain control of the “culture” before expecting their utopia to materialize. Now that conservatives are feeling that they’ve lost the culture wars in this country, could the ideas of Gramsci be used to fight back?
We’ll look at the latest controversies over gun control — and, yes, in spite of it all, we still believe the Second Amendment means what it says. While the Left seems to think the NRA is the problem, we think the culture is the problem. As in Hollywood, video games, moral relativism. So how could it make sense to disarm law-abiding Americans while the culture grows more threatening?
We invite your calls at 303-696-1971. Listen live on 710am KNUS in Denver -Metro, or 1460am KZNT in Colorado Springs and also iHeartRADIO on your mobile device. Politics, culture and controversy — plus some groovy bumper music. Backbone Radio, the higher ground in Colorado talk radio
1/13
Tune in Sunday night to KNUS AM 710 from 5 to 8 pm for Backbone Radio. Krista Kafer and Matt Dunn will hit the airwaves with fresh commentary on all things political and cultural.
We have two terrific guests: Karen Kataline author of Fatlash! Food Police & the Fear of Thin, will tell us what happens when others, be they family members or strangers, attempt to control our food consumption. (Hint: it doesn’t work). Check out Kafer’s review of the book at http://www.coloradosfutureproject.com/detail.php?c=2790297
Also, State Senator Greg Brophy will fill us in on what’s happening this legislative session. We’ll toast, figuratively that is, to his new bill to legalize public consumption of alcohol for 18-year-olds under parental supervision.
Quentin Tarantino’s been a trifle testy these days in answering questions about “gun violence” in his movies. He claims movies bear no responsibility for random mass shootings in America. We’ll talk about his latest movie, the completely irresponsible Django Unchained, and its glamorization of guns. Should Tarantino get a pass?
A new survey shows that workers in Boulder are the “unhappiest” workers in all of America. How could such be the case in Colorado’s most liberal enclave?
Also, we’ll touch on a massive snake hunt in the south Florida, DNA testing of doggie doo to catch negligent owners, Hagel’s nomination for Secretary of Defense and the new Oxygen network reality show “All My Baby’s Mamas,” which describes the busy life of a former rapper who’s produced 11 children by 10 different mothers. Upscale entertainment to be sure.
1/6
Tune in Sunday night to KNUS AM 710 from 5 to 8 pm for Backbone Radio. Krista Kafer and Matt Dunn will hit the airwaves with fresh commentary on all things political and cultural.
Guest former Colorado Senate President John Andrews, founder of Backbone Radio, will discuss the current political scene. Where can Republicans find hope right now?
It looks like a nice big storm is brewing over the potential nomination of Republican Senator Chuck Hagel to be Obama’s Secretary of Defense. Why the storm? Why would Obama choose a Republican for this post? Would he be any good?
A new Associated Press poll finds 64% of Americans think the government should find a solution to obesity. Another personal responsibility outsourced to the government? It’s a bad sign for those of us who fear the growing nanny state.
Is America and the West in decline? The topic haunts America in 2013. We’ll discuss Oswald Spengler’s book from 1918 “The Decline of the West” as reviewed by Robert W. Merry in the latest issue of the American Interest. Some refer to Spengler as a pessimistic “prophet of decline” — some see him as having been spot on. Was he onto something? If America wants to avert its decline, should it re-think its habitual foreign policy interventionism?
Plus armored clothing for children, the pork-laden Sandy relief bill, the Obama Administration’s continuing War on Women, the latest on Gerard Depardieu’s tax-flight from France, the phenomenon of declining birth rates, and how Al “Jazeera” Gore has taken hypocrisy to new heights.
12/30
Tune in Sunday night to KNUS AM 710 from 5 to 8 pm for Backbone Radio. Krista Kafer and Matt Dunn will hit the airwaves with fresh commentary on all things political and cultural.
Are you a fan of Western movies? John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Kevin Costner? If so, you won’t want to miss the next installment of Backbone Radio.
We’ll have a stirring in-studio discussion about the Western with Ryan McMaken, author of the recent eye-popping book “Commie Cowboys: The Bourgeoisie and the Nation-State in the Western Genre.”
We’ll also tip our ten gallon hats to Hobby Lobby for daring to defy the Obama Administration . Last week, Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor denied the company’s request for an injunction while its lawsuit is pending against the birth control mandate. Hobby Lobby will continue to offer health insurance for employees but will not insurance that covers abortion causing drugs. In defending the owners’ 1st Amendment guaranteed right to conscience, the company risks a $1.3 million a day in IRS excise taxes.
Conservatives have our backs up against a wall defending our most basic rights. Will we prevail? We’ll take a close look at Professor James Kurth’s recent article: “The Crisis of American Conservatism, Inherent Contradictions and the End of the Road.”
In this morning’s interview with David Gregory, President Obama says that he never compares himself to Abraham Lincoln. But is that really true? We at Backbone beg to differ — and we’ll offer our evidence to the contrary.
Should Piers Morgan be deported? Should a New York newspaper be publishing the names and addresses of gun-permit holders?
We’ll talk about our most and least favorite events of 2012. Plus PJ O’Rourke on pizza, Hillary Clinton’s concussion, and Matt Damon giving up on politics.
12/16
Tune in Sunday night to KNUS AM 710 from 5 to 8 pm for Backbone Radio. Matt Dunn and Krista Kafer will hit the airwaves with fresh commentary on all things political and cultural.
There are no words to express the sadness and anger we feel over the Newtown, Connecticut massacre. The holiday season seems like a tin charade against the grim reality of evil in our midst. We are not the first to battle bewilderment and cynicism at this time of the year. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, caring for a son with war injuries and grieving the loss of his wife, penned these words on Christmas Day during the darkest days of the Civil War:
And in despair I bowed my head; “There is no peace on earth,” I said;”For hate is strong, And mocks the song Of peace on earth, good-will to men!”
Then pealed the bells more loud and deep: “God is not dead, nor doth He sleep; The Wrong shall fail, The Right prevail, With peace on earth, good-will to men.”
We’ll talk with Dr. Doug Groothius, Denver Seminary professor about the meaning of Christmas and where we might find hope at such a time as this.
We’ll also discuss America’s declining birth rate. Some say it reflects America’s increasing “decadence.” Could that be the case?
Would former Republican Senator Chuck Hagel make a good Secretary of Defense? What are we to make of PSY, Korean rapper of “Gangnam Style,” and his controversial views on American foreign policy?
Is it unpatriotic of Gerard Depardieu, the famous French actor, to flee his home country to avoid paying the new socialist taxes?
We invite your calls at 303-696-1971. Listen live on 710am KNUS in Denver -Metro, or 1460am KZNT in Colorado Springs and also iHeartRADIO on your mobile device. Politics, culture and controversy — plus some groovy bumper music. Backbone Radio, the higher ground in Colorado talk radio.
12/9
Tune in Sunday night to KNUS AM 710 from 5 to 8 pm for Backbone Radio. Krista Kafer will hit the airwaves with fresh commentary on all things political and cultural.
Many in the Republican Party are saying it’s time to embrace amnesty for illegal immigrants. They insist that the only way to draw Hispanic voters to the GOP is to grant the11 million resident illegal immigrants citizenship and take this sticky issue off the table for good. Critics point out that the last amnesty program didn’t settle the matter and a new amnesty push will just leave the door open for another. Could there be another way to solve the immigration conundrum while respecting the rule of law and national borders?
Indeed there is and Helen Krieble, founder and president of the Vernon K. Krieble Foundation and author of the Red Card Solution will tell us all about it.
We’ll also talk with Ben DeGrow of the Independence Institute about how teachers can opt out of paying dues for union political causes. The deadline is December 15 for teachers to apply for a refund of around $63. That’ll buy a few toys for under the Christmas tree and some peace of mind knowing that you aren’t funding causes and candidates you don’t support.
Speaking of Christmas trees and holiday cheer, some not-so-merry Grinches are doing their small hearted best to stifle celebrations across the fruited plain. In Rhode Island, Governor Lincoln Chaffee stands by his renaming the State House spruce as the Holiday Tree and made sure that no flash mob of carolers would turn up to sing “O Christmas Tree” like they did last year. On the other coast, a less-than-festive group of atheists successfully ended a sixty year old nativity display in Palisades Park. Is it a lack of creativity in coming up with their own holidays or just mean spiritedness that makes some atheists just want to destroy other’s beloved traditions?
We’ll also talk about leadership change at the Heritage Foundation, the high life in Washington which, along with our very own state, legalized marijuana, and how to turn your pet into a diamond. Got opinions? Thoughts? Call into the program at 303-696-1971.
12/2
Tune in Sunday night to KNUS AM 710 from 5 to 8 pm for Backbone Radio. Matt Dunn and Krista Kafer will hit the airwaves with fresh commentary on all things political and cultural.
If there is one core conviction that holds the Republican Party together, it is the view that the private sector — not the government sector — can save the economy. If there is one prevailing certainty in the Mainstream Media, it is that no matter what happens in the approach to the Fiscal Cliff, Republicans shall take the blame for whatever happens next.
In our view, the above revelation should liberate the Republicans to just go ahead and be Republicans. In the choice between hanging together, hanging apart, or hanging tough on taxes — we know what we recommend.
Additionally, we’ll have two terrific guests: we’ll talk with Dave Kerber, recent candidate for Senate District 26, on the ugly campaign tactics used by the Left. After accusing Kerber and other Republicans of being pro-cancer this election, what will they do in 2014? It’s not like the Left can go any lower.
We’ll also hear from Jamie Gass of the Pioneer Institute about an important upcoming event on national education standards at Independence Institute on December 6th: Common Core’s Race to the Middle. What exactly is going on in our state’s schools?
We’ll take a look at Susan Rice and the alleged racism of her critics, we’ll assess the fate of Liberal Arts education at American colleges, and we’ll explore the meaning of the recent boomlet in secessionistic thinking. Plus we’ll offer some reflections on the Ken Burns “Dust Bowl” documentary, the apparently inverted “gender gap” in Colorado, and recent research on “gentlemanly behavior.”
11/25
Tune in Sunday night to KNUS AM 710 from 5 to 8 pm for Backbone Radio. Matt Dunn and Krista Kafer will hit the airwaves with fresh commentary on all things political and cultural.
Having spent the last few days giving thanks for our many blessings, we’ll take a moment to survey the larger American trajectory. How are we doing? Are we a nation in decline?
We’ll talk with Nicolas Eberstadt of the American Enterprise Institute about his new book A Nation of Takers about what it means when half of a nation’s citizens are receiving government funding of one kind or another. What does that mean for the economy and even more critically, the culture and the nation’s future?
We’ll discuss the epiphenomenon of post-election Romney bashing from within GOP circles. What gives? Is any of it deserved? We’ll talk about Governor Chris Christie, another individual who’s taken recent heat. Is he finished on the national stage?
How are Grover Norquist’s tax pledge and pledgers holding up under significant pressure to raise taxes? Will they take a stand or capitulate to the President and Harry Reid? Are we sailing over the fiscal cliff in this ship of fools?
Matt will give us a review of Steven Spielberg’s new movie “Lincoln.” Was it an accurate portrayal of our 16th President? He was struck by Tommy Lee Jones’ excellent portrayal of radical abolitionist Thaddeus Stevens. Who was this fire-breathing Stevens, and what was his role in the Civil War?
Plus we’ll review Ron Paul’s farewell, theories of justice in Bolivia, and how America views Tim Tebow. And just wondering — when Obama calls upon “the rich” to pay their “fair share” of taxes, where lies the fairness threshold?
We invite your calls at 303-696-1971. Listen live on 710am KNUS in Denver -Metro, or 1460am KZNT in Colorado Springs and also iHeartRADIO on your mobile device. Politics, culture and controversy — plus some groovy bumper music. Backbone Radio, the higher ground in Colorado talk radio.
11/18
Tune in Sunday night to KNUS AM 710 from 5 to 8 pm for Backbone Radio. Matt Dunn will hit the airwaves with fresh commentary on all things political and cultural.
As we set about the task of regrouping and reconstituting amidst the realities of a “fundamentally transformed” America — in our post-Twinkie world – Backbone Radio will be joined in studio by two spectacular guests for tonight’s show.
We’ll visit with Congressman Tom Tancredo to check his opinions of Obama’s victory, Romney’s defeat and the overall trajectory of the Republican Party. Where do we go from here? Is this the hour for amnesty? And what does Colorado’s passage of Amendment 64 really mean
We’ll also talk with Professor Thomas Krannawitter, noted Lincoln scholar and author of Vindicating Lincoln, about Steven Spielberg’s new movie “Lincoln.” We’ll find out how the good professor grades Hollywood’s rendition of the noble final year of Lincoln’s life.
Matt saw the movie last night, and fully enjoyed his few hours in the company of Honest Abe. He’ll take a little look at how well (or not well) the current president-elect measures up to the standards of the 16th President of the United States.
Plus we’ll discuss Ron Paul’s farewell, Chris Christie’s verbosity, the dwindling Remnant, Minivans and more.
11/11
Tune in Sunday night to KNUS AM 710 from 5 to 8 pm for Backbone Radio. Matt Dunn and Krista Kafer will hit the airwaves with fresh commentary on all things political and cultural.
The hosts of Backbone Radio wish you a Happy Veterans Day and a heartfelt thank you to all the men and women who have served our nation in our armed forces. To commemorate Veterans Day, previously called Armistice Day in recognition of the end of the World War I, we’ll be talking with Andy Parks of the Vintage Aero Flying Museum about his collection of WWI and WWII planes and artifacts.
We’ll also revisit the latest battle in the war of ideas with political veteran (and US Navy veteran) John Andrews. Though it will take some time to process the reasons for Romney’s defeat, we’ll take a cold hard look across the spectrum.
What happened on Tuesday night? And where do we go from here?
Was it amnesty? Was it demographics? Was it class warfare? Was it the war on women? Was it Sandy? Was it Christie? Was it Romney?
It is a time for soul-searching, a time to ask heavy questions. We’ll start searching, and start asking — and begin the process of regrouping.
It was a stoic Marcus Aurelius who once said: “There are many bitter pills, but we welcome them in hope of health.”
We’re not ready to conduct an autopsy on conservatism just yet — we shall rise again in good health — but we need to do some serious thinking before we do so. We invite your calls at 303-696-1971. Like us on Facebook!
11/4
It’s tense, it’s tight, and it’s instructive indeed to compare the ways Romney and Obama are respectively closing out their campaigns.
While Obama completes his pratfall into petty Chicago politics, telling his supporters “Voting is the best revenge” — future president Romney walks the high road, encouraging voting “for love of country” and leading “America to a better place.”
As far as we’re concerned, we’re with the ancient philosopher Juvenal, who wrote: “Revenge is the poor delight of little minds.” We’ll talk with political veteran Dick Wadhams about what he thinks will happen on Tuesday between the Chicago school of politicking and the more Reaganesque Romney camp.
Speaking of the higher road, did you catch Kafer’s guest commentary in the Denver Post? Turns out that economic literacy correlates with voting for conservative, free market candidates. Rather than using scare tactics (e.g., ads accusing people of being pro-cancer), educating voters to understand basic economics and government policy reaps dividends at the ballot and may even impact long term voting patterns. Who knew?
Romney came to the Denver Tech Center yesterday, filling Fiddler’s Green to its capacity of 17,000. The energy is enormous, the mittmentum is full steam ahead. If there is wisdom in crowds, then candidate Romney has a virtual monopoly on wisdom these days — as President Obama can’t help but notice his own throngs have diminished since the promises made in 2008. And for good reason.
Meanwhile, our own Steve Kelley spent about 33 hours on a swing set outside the amphitheater, setting a world record and reminding us that Colorado is a “swing state” and that every last vote counts BIG in Colorado this year. The polls have things labeled as a “toss up,” and now Hurricane Sandy has thrown plenty of sand into the gears of both campaigns. What shall be the fallout? How’s it all going to play out?
We’ll offer our own full-court-press with two days left unto election. We’re nervous but we’re ready, and we expect you are too!
10/28
Tune in Sunday night to KNUS AM 710 from 5 to 8 pm for Backbone Radio. Matt Dunn and Krista Kafer will hit the airwaves with fresh commentary on all things political and cultural.
We’ve got three terrific guests: We’ll talk with Debbie Brown of the Colorado Women’s Alliance about how the Romney Campaign has erased the gender gap this election by appealing to women’s minds and hearts, not their parts, as the other campaign has attempted with paltry returns. Did you catch the new campaign ad by Team Obama likening voting to losing one’s virginity? Catch Krista’s blog on the topic.
We’ll also talk Debbie Manzanares of the Human Trafficking Task Force of Southern Colorado about their efforts to put an end to the tragedy of trafficking through advocacy, awareness, rehabilitation, and services for survivors. Finally, John S. Lyons, candidate for Colorado Senate District 28, will give us his take on these last two weeks on the campaign trail.
The state of the presidential race with 9 days left has Colorado dead even at 47.8 to 47.8 in the Real Clear Politics composite poll average. Right down to the decimal point, it doesn’t get closer than this.
We were blown away by Kyle Clark’s 9News interview of President Obama on Friday night. Making the most of his opportunity to speak with the President, Reporter Clark asked some pointed questions about Benghazi, Abound Solar, and the president’s use of the word “bull**itter” to describe his opponent. Not exactly civil! Clark gets the first annual Backbone Award for his noble example of reportage. Mainstream media take note!
We’ll also review the presidential debates en summarium, the latest gaffes from Joe Biden — Delirium Bidens — and we’ll debrief on last night’s kinetic packed house KNUS “Talkers Tour” event with Karl Rove, Hugh Hewitt and Mike Gallagher. A great time was had by all.
We invite your calls at 303-696-1071.
10/21
Tune in Sunday night to KNUS AM 710 from 5 to 8 pm for Backbone Radio. Matt Dunn and Krista Kafer will hit the airwaves with fresh commentary on all things political and cultural.
We’ve got two great guests. We’ll interview the distinguished historian Walter R. Borneman, author of the recent The Admirals: Nimitz, Halsey, Leahy and King — The Five Star Admirals Who Won the War At Sea. Our discussion will focus on the character and leadership qualities of these legendary individuals. We’ll also talk with University of Colorado Professor Michael Berry, co-author of the recently published research predicting a Romney win.
With 16 days unto election, things really couldn’t be more exciting — or more encouraging for Mitt Romney. Now enjoying a small lead in the polls, and even a slight lead in estimates of the electoral map, the GOP is feeling hopeful but not quite confident.
The empire is striking back, however, with vicious ads accusing Republican candidates of being pro-cancer, anti-women, and haters of the poor. Will the unprecedented level of government welfare and an emergence of an entitled citizenry make the election a foregone conclusion for the Left as a recent WSJ editorial suggests? Which way is the wind blowing?
Now more than ever, Colorado remains crucial for both candidates. As we witness ad after ad, and appearance after appearance, it’s time to step back and take a look at the grassroots realities here in the Centennial State. The fate of the nation may rest upon the suburbs of Arapahoe and Jefferson counties.
We’ll review the past three debates and we’ll offer our advice on “foreign policy” pursuant to tomorrow night’s final presidential debate. Here’s a hint: It’s time for Romney to set the record straight on Obama’s sub-optimal Libyan fiasco, and also offer some real Republican contrast with the old, often unhelpful policies of George W. Bush. Barring a surprise cameo intervention from Candy Crowley, these tasks should be more than manageable for the challenger.
Plus, we’ll discuss why Barbara Streisand and Bruce Springsteen are stepping it up for Obama, the death of Newsweek and why the socialists in France are trying to ban “homework” in French public schools.
We invite your calls at 303-696-1071.
10/14
Tune in Sunday night to KNUS AM 710 from 5 to 8 pm for Backbone Radio. Matt Dunn and Krista Kafer will hit the airwaves with fresh commentary on all things political and cultural.
Another week and so much to discuss! We’ll have three terrific guests: Ben DeGrow, senior policy analyst for the Education Policy Center at the Independence Institute, will give us his take on the movie Won’t Back Down. We’ll talk about what real health care reform looks like with Nina Owcharenko, the Director of the Heritage Foundation’s Center for Health Policy Studies. It’ll be good information for when the disastrous Obamacare law is chucked into history’s dustbin (hopefully a few months from now). We’ll talk with our old friend Jimmy Sengenberger about his upcoming event at the State Capitol.
We’ll also review last week’s VP debate. In what can only be described as an angry, disrespectful and wholly inappropriate performance in Thursday night’s debate, Joe Biden proved himself the veritable poster child for what’s wrong with politics in America today. Shouting, flailing, sneering, interrupting and awkwardly grinning — it makes us aware that sometimes age does not confer wisdom upon the aged.
We were impressed with the way the cool, civilized and presidential Paul Ryan stood up to the hyena tactics of his opponent.
Meanwhile, President Obama — who oft expresses concern about the “smallness of our politics” — decided to spend the past week laser-focused on the travails of Big Bird. Heading into the home stretch, with 23 days unto election, the President wants America to know that a vote for Obama is a vote to save Sesame Street. Big Bird, however, asked Team Obama to stop running those ads about him. No one likes to be a political puppet.
With Romney rising in the polls, recent events in Libya looking ever worse for the Administration, and the budget deficit surpassing a trillion for the fourth year, we’ve got plenty to talk about.
We invite your calls at 303-696-1071.

Tune in Sunday night to KNUS AM 710 from 5 to 8 pm for Backbone Radio. Matt Dunn and Krista Kafer will hit the airwaves with fresh commentary on all things political and cultural.
What a week! Heading into Wednesday night’s debate in Denver, Romney was a man already on the ropes, bruised and battered by the polls. President Obama was flying like a butterfly. The stakes were as high as Republican morale was low. The match was on.
Emerging from his corner, Romney gloved up and spent 90 minutes ever-so-politely drubbing President Obama — in front of no less than 67 million viewers. It was an epic performance. Indeed, the result may have been almost as lopsided had Romney been debating an empty chair.
Matt and Krista were a stone’s throw away from the debate at the media center aka Spin Room where Krista was live blogging for the Denver Post. Afterward they hung out in the Spin Room among the stunned and somewhat dejected press corps, celebrity pundits, and campaign staff. We’ll offer our full debrief of the evening, in all its glorious detail. Let’s just say Axelrod was looking a tad grim.
It was pure jubilation the next day at CPAC. A speaker at the event, Krista drank in the enthusiasm. She still can’t stop smiling.
What’s up next? The Biden-Ryan debate. Will the silver-tongued Joe Biden step up and save the day for Team Obama? Hmmm… We’re betting Axelrod is growing even grimmer at the prospect.
We’ll also consider the case for privatizing Big Bird, the spiritual dimension of an iPhone (or lack thereof), the poetry of Yeats and Arnold, illegal manatee riding and some novel uses for bear spray.

Tune in Sunday night to KNUS AM 710 from 5 to 8 pm for Backbone Radio. Matt Dunn and Krista Kafer will hit the airwaves with fresh commentary on all things political and cultural.
We welcome you to “debate prep” and “ladies night” on Backbone Radio. The first presidential debate comes to Colorado on Wednesday — the roads around I-25 will be closed and the stakes will be high. The pressure mounts, the air grows heavy with anticipation
In the one corner, Team Obama is attempting to lower expectations for their guy, claiming he’s too busy being president to properly prepare. You know, spending all that time with Letterman and the ladies from The View. For whatever reason, they’re doing all they can to raise expectations for their opponent.
In the other corner, Team Romney seems already on the ropes, facing a palpable GOP morale problem and plentiful nervous nellies in the bleachers. With the skewed polls showing some slippage, some are saying it’s “do or die” time for Romney.
So – will Romney take the gloves off? Will Obama survive without his Teleprompter? Who will fly like a butterfly? Who will sting like a bee? We’ll take our own shots at “debate prep” — what to expect, what it all means, what they should do and how they should do it. Hint to Romney: Let’s Roll!
We’ll also offer another “Ladies Night” installment in our conversation with Debbie Brown, director of the Colorado Women’s Alliance. How’s Mitt doing with the ladies? Is Obama getting anywhere with his specious “War on Women” charge?
Also, for those who collect campaign buttons (as does Kafer), we’ll take a look at this unique American tradition. It goes all the way back to 1828. Who would have guessed?

Tune in Sunday night to KNUS AM 710 from 5 to 8 pm for Backbone Radio. Matt Dunn and Krista Kafer will hit the airwaves with fresh commentary on all things political and cultural.
We’ll have two terrific guests: Douglas R. Groothuis, the brainy Professor of Philosophy at Denver Seminary will talk about his support for Mitt Romney, the professor’s disagreement with the Mormon religion notwithstanding. Check out his most recent writing on the subject—“Why This Conservative Evangelical Counter-Cult Expert Will Vote for Romney.” We’ll also talk with Pam Benigno of the Independence Institute about the Denver Public School’s teacher evaluation system that rewards teachers who “encourage students to challenge and question the dominant culture” and “work for social justice.” Sounds like an excuse to take a fieldtrip to an Occupy Denver campout.
Speaking of questioning the party line, some on the left are losing their faith in President Obama. Rock star Dave Matthews, for instance, tells CNN he’s “slightly heartbroken” about his continued support for Obama. And over at the liberal New Republic, there’s Tim Noah saying: “I need a president who can cheer me up, not a president who needs me to cheer him up.” And then there’s Obama himself, in his Univision interview, taking time to dwell on his failures as chief executive.
We have 44 days unto election and the polls are essentially even. But some conservatives are “going wobbly” on Romney’s prospects. Kristol, Frum, Brooks, Noonan — what’s going on with the weak-knees? Are they onto something — or should they buck up and show some backbone?
Also, we’ll take a little look into America’s thriving $2.3 billion tattoo industry. A new study shows that 21% of Americans have at least one tattoo, and ultimately 50% of young people will choose to have them removed. Plus, we’ll talk about why Democrats recently voted against welfare work requirements, the “lotus-eaters” of Homer’s Odyssey, FDR on redistribution, JFK on taxes, and a little more about Charles Kesler’s great new book, I Am the Change: Barack Obama and the Crisis of Liberalism.

Tune in Sunday night to KNUS AM 710 from 5 to 8 pm for Backbone Radio. Matt Dunn and Krista Kafer will hit the airwaves with fresh commentary on all things political and cultural.
Our guest for the evening will be Charles R. Kesler, a senior fellow of the Claremont Institute and professor of government at Claremont McKenna College. We’ll discuss his brilliant new book I Am the Change: Barack Obama and the Crisis of Liberalism.
Kesler’s lively analysis shows where the president fits into the “liberal” tradition of American politics dating back to 19th Century. How does Obama want to “transform” America? Why do both his supporters and his opponents misunderstand Obama? Is American liberalism on its last legs or about to be reborn?
And what will be President Obama’s legacy? Here’s a hint — Obama’s policies on health care, taxation and regulation have pushed America further toward the European model of social democracy. As aging European welfare states (think Greece) presently hit the wall of deficits and debt, Obama’s outrageous spending habits are hastening our own encounter with the wall.
Meanwhile, the new Census Bureau report paints a grim picture of America 2012: Median household income falling, some 2.3 million more Americans on Medicaid, and a record 46.2 million Americans living in poverty. All this under a president who once said, “Let’s be the generation that ends poverty in America.”
When you consider that a record 45 million Americans are now on food stamps and a record 11 million are collecting federal disability checks – things aren’t pretty these days.
This week four Americans lost their lives in Libya, including Ambassador Chris Stevens, when violent protests erupted across North Africa ostensibly over a lame, low-budget film. While the blame sits squarely with the murderers and their twisted excuses, some are wondering if the incoherent foreign policy from this administration has emboldened radical elements abroad.
On the bright side, Russian scientists are planning to clone a wooly mammoth from frozen mammoth tissue. We’ve got more hope for this Jurassic Park adventure than for what lies ahead under this president.

We’ll have three great guests. Timothy Sandefur, of the Pacific Legal Foundation, will offer his unflattering take on Obamacare. We’ll talk with Linda Appel Lipsius, CEO of a new Colorado business – Teatulia which brings us the best in organic tea from Bangladesh. Love tea? Tune in.
And we’ll interview legend Doc Holliday. Yes, that’s right, the one and only Doc Holliday — part-time dentist, full-time rascal, friend of Wyatt Earp, participant in the Gunfight at the OK Corral, and presently permanent resident of Glenwood Springs, Colorado. We’ll find out what Doc’s been up to lately.
We’ll also dissect the Democratic National Convention, a week of celebration which included plentiful profit-bashing, no less than three votes against God, and a grande finale from a drastically downsized venue. All of which was inconveniently punctuated, the morning after, with another round of terrible job numbers.
Yes, friends, it was a week of ardent pandering, with victim-du-jour Sandra Fluke on hand in prime time and glowing words from the notorious womanizer-in-chief Bill Clinton. Krista isn’t buying the come-on line. Are other women willing to trade freedom for free stuff? Time will tell.

It’s been an eventful, energizing week. We’ll take a cruise through our favorite takeaway moments from the Republican National Convention. There are plenty of them like Mitt Romney’s crisp summary of the case he’s making to the American people—“President Obama promised to slow the rise of the oceans and to heal the planet. My promise… is to help you and your family.” Instead of far-flung rhetorical utopianism, Romney is offering practical help for tough times. It may not be poetic, but it is certainly persuasive.
Clint Eastwood offered his own summarium, in his own High Plains Drifter sort of way, and managed to make our day, with that little remark. “And when somebody does not do the job, we gotta let them go.”
We’ll also preview the coming attractions of next week’s Democrat National Convention. Can they respond? If so, how? And what can they possibly say to glorify the grim of the past four years? We’ll offer our hypotheses. Perhaps the public meltdowns of Chris Matthews offer some indication of the present left-wing state of mind.
We also have two terrific guests. Linda Gorman of the Independence Institute will tell us about her new paper The Real Cost of ObamaCare. Succinct and eminently readable, the paper provides all the ammunition you need to win an argument about this disastrous, costly law. We’ll also talk with Michael Poliakoff of the American Council of Trustees and Alumni about the state of higher education. Let’s just say it isn’t pretty.
Meanwhile, we’ll mourn the loss of Blinky the Clown, who’s now gone up to that great “Fun Club” in the sky. Growing up in Denver, the good-natured, gravelly-voiced clown was a fixture of childhood for both of us.

Tune in Sunday night to KNUS AM 710 from 5 to 8 pm for Backbone Radio. Matt Dunn and Krista Kafer will hit the airwaves with fresh commentary on all things political and cultural.
Newsweek started the week by making some news. Its cover story, by Professor Niall Ferguson of Harvard, was titled: “Hit the Road Barack: Why We Need a New President.” Ouch! Imagine that — Newsweek finally making itself useful, after all these years.
Though the hard-hitting essay was music to our ears, it didn’t go over so well with the left-wing blognoscenti. An appalled Paul Krugman quickly called it “unethical commentary.” And it didn’t take long for Berkeley’s Brad DeLong to call Ferguson “a sad, strange, deluded little man” while demanding his immediate firing from Harvard. Wow, great stuff! So who is right? We’ll discuss the Ferguson article, in all its glory, alongside the hyperventilations and tergiversations of its liberal critics.
We’ll also have two terrific guests—former Congressman Bob Beauprez will give us the inside scoop on the Republican National Convention live from Tampa. Hurricane threats can’t dampen the air of celebration. The “comeback team” of Romney-Ryan has now taken the lead in some national polls.
And now for something completely different—master beekeeper Tim Brod will tell us all about bees. It’s honey harvest time and the Denver Post has even featured a few articles about these fascinating creatures. They’re not just nature’s candy makers; bees are essential to agriculture. Without them, much of the fruit, nuts, and vegetables that grace our plates would never be.

Tune in Sunday night to KNUS AM 710 from 5 to 8 pm for Backbone Radio. Matt Dunn and Krista Kafer will hit the airwaves with fresh commentary on all things political and cultural.
We’re sensing a shift in momentum over the past week, one that clearly favors Romney & Ryan — as Obama & Biden appear to be running against the wind, or rather a windfall of bad statistics on employment, mounting debt, and rising prices. Could just be the hot air from Vice President Joe Biden, the preternatural one-man gaffe machine, who appears to be taking his haplessness to the next level. Will Obama keep him on the ticket? We certainly hope so.
This Sunday we’ll feature we two terrific guests—Roger Kimball, editor of the New Criterion and one of America’s foremost cultural critics, about his new book “The Fortunes of Permanence: Culture and Anarchy in an Age of Amnesia.” Kimball’s nimble intellect will match his wit as we discuss the prospects for the survival of Western culture.
Kyle Forti will tell us about Media Trackers hot-off-the-presses stories about the wage gap in the General Assembly between Democrat women and their male co-workers, along with State Senator Linda Newell’s apparent campaign finance violations.
We want to know what’s going on. We’ll also talk about how Paul Ryan continues to energize the GOP ticket. He is having a substantive impact on the campaign, especially on the blockbuster issue of Medicare. We’ll say farewell to Helen Gurley Brown, the notorious long-time editor of Cosmopolitan magazine, discuss the recent violence directed at the conservative Family Research Council, and take our proverbial hats off to the court decision upholding the Pennsylvania Voter ID law.
PLUS: Are real books better than e-books? What’s this about a restaurant giving discounts to diners who leave their cell phones at the door? And what are we to make of Bill Gates’ new focus on toiletry?
Don’t miss the hard hitting commentary and hot bumper music. In honor of Vice President Biden, we’ll be playing our favorite songs about “chains.” Tune in to 710 KNUS or 1460 KZNT Colorado Springs or online at www.710knus.com from 5 to 8 PM. Your smart choice for Sunday night radio.

Tune in Sunday night to KNUS AM 710 from 5 to 8 pm for Backbone Radio. Matt Dunn and Krista Kafer will hit the airwaves with fresh commentary on all things political and cultural. We are enthused about Romney’s bold pick of Congressman Paul Ryan as running mate. Calm and cool and full of energy, Ryan really knows his stuff.
As he’s done in the House of Representatives, Ryan will focus the election on Obama’s out of control spending habits. In just over three years, Obama has added $5 trillion to the national debt. Especially now, this election will mark a choice between fiscal sanity and fiscal suicide. And we simply cannot wait to watch Ryan and Biden debate! Pass the popcorn. Just to give a little foretaste, we’ll replay Ryan’s epic dismantling of Obamacare. He hit it out of the park in a six-minute impromptu speech, sitting right in front of Obama and Biden, looking them in the eyes. Talk about backbone!
In addition we’ll have some terrific guests-Penn Pfiffner and Rob Natelson of the Independence Institute will join us in studio to talk about efforts afoot to eliminate TABOR, the popular clause in our state’s constitution that prevents the legislature from raising taxes without a vote by the people. TABOR foes say it violates the U.S. Constitution’s guarantee that states have a “republican” form of government, in which elected representatives decide matters. One can only imagine what tax and spenders might accomplish if TABOR was ruled unconstitutional! Can you say California?
Also, we’ll be joined by Senator Kevin Lundberg, candidate for Congressional District 2. He’s a principled conservative with the kind of backbone that makes him perfect for the show. We’ll hear about what he’ll do if elected and his thoughts about the economy and the election.
Don’t miss the hard hitting commentary and hot bumper music. Tune in to 710 KNUS or 1460 KZNT Colorado Springs or online at http://www.710knus.com/ <http://www.710knus.com/> from 5 to 8 PM. Your smart choice for Sunday night radio.

Tune in Sunday night to KNUS AM 710 from 5 to 8 pm for Backbone Radio. Matt Dunn and Krista Kafer will hit the airwaves with fresh commentary on all things political and cultural.
We will have two terrific guests— Congressman Cory Gardner, who represents the 4th Congressional District of Colorado. He has introduced the Making College Affordable Act to increase the tax exempt contribution to a Coverdell Education Savings Account from $2,000 annually to $10,000. Given the rising cost of college tuition, this bill, if passed, will help countless American families save for college. In addition to hearing about the college savings bill, we’ll ask Congressman Gardner why he voted to extend the current tax rates.
We’ll also talk with Jim Nicholson who served as Secretary of Veterans Affairs and U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See under the Bush Administration. He has also served as the Chairman of the Republican National Committee. Secretary Nicholson is using his political, diplomatic and legal experience to champion Americans’ rights of conscience and religious freedom. Does he think that Americans will prevail against the current attack on their rights or will they lose to powerful interests?
Speaking of prevailing against a threat to First Amendments rights, Americans showed just how they feel about an attack on free speech when they gave Chick-fil-A a record breaking sales day on Wednesday. Special interests and politicians overreached when they threatened to boycott the chain and block the opening of new restaurants. They weren’t the only ones to overplay their hand. Senator Reid of Nevada has done his share in what we’re calling the Week of Overreach.
We’ll also take a bite out of shark bite news, the passing of author Gore Vidal, the unemployment numbers, and a piece of 2,500 year old chocolate recently found by archeologists. Dunn also has some crazy ideas for baby names as he anticipates the upcoming birth of a son.

Tune in Sunday night to KNUS 710am from 5 to 8 pm for Backbone Radio.
Your genial host Matt Dunn will be joined by Backbone contributor
Karen Kataline for the latest commentary on all things cultural and
political.
With the spectacular Krista Kafer taking a rare night off, we will be
pleased to be joined by three guests through the evening:
Mark Hillman, former Majority Leader of the Colorado State Senate,
will offer his insight into Obama’s “dismissive” attitude toward
American business. What did Obama mean when he once said he felt like
a “spy behind enemy lines” during his brief stint in the private
sector? And today, when Obama tells us “You didn’t build that!” what
exactly does he mean? Come again?
Scott Shipley, Colorado resident and three-time U.S. Olympian, will
join us on the phone from London for the latest updates on the 2012
Olympics. We’ll gauge the vibes across the pond and learn a little bit
about what’s going through the minds of our athletes as they prepare
to give it their all.
Also, Dr. Jon Kedrowski, author of the new book “Sleeping on the
Summits,” will discuss his adventures pitching his tent on top of each
of Colorado’s 55 Fourteeners. Plus, we’ll review Dr. Kedrowski’s
recent successful ascent of Mount Everest. Lofty topics indeed!
Matt & Karen will also take time to discuss the “bust” of Winston
Churchill, the questionable wisdom of Nanny Bloomberg of New York
City, and the antics of the “Goat Man” recently spotted in Utah. What
gives?
And also – who knew? – Al Gore seems to have finally gotten something
right. Though he said these words on the campaign trail in 1992, they
manage to apply today in 2012 with astonishing accuracy:
“Unemployment around the country has gone up, the number of jobs has
gone down. The trade deficit has gone up, personal income has gone
down. Poverty has gone up, the number of jobs has gone down.
Bankruptcies have gone up – jobs, down. Fear, up – hope, down.
Everything that oughta be down is up, everything that should be up is
down. They’ve got it upside down, and we’re gonna turn it right side
up!”
All that from Al Gore, as ever, a man ahead of his time. Take heart,
folks, help is on the way.

Tune in Sunday night to KNUS AM 710 from 5 to 8 pm for Backbone Radio. Matt Dunn and Krista Kafer will hit the airwaves with fresh commentary on all things political and cultural.
The tragedy of the Aurora murders weighs heavily on our hearts. In addition to updating listeners on the most recent news about the tragedy, we’re going to discuss how Americans should confront evil. Most Americans, including President Obama and Governor Romney, have responded with compassion for the victims. Others, like ABC News’ Brian Ross and George Stephanopoulos, have used the tragedy for their own political agenda. Guess they didn’t want to let a serious crisis go to waste.
We will also have two terrific guests— Laura Carno, the founder of iamcreatedequal.com. Tired of the condescending War on Women rhetoric, Laura has launched an effort to educate and empower women. This counter narrative affirms the equality of women and men and women’s ability to run their own lives without the so-called help of Washington politicians.
We will also talk with Clint Bolick co-founder of the Institute for Justice, research fellow with the Hoover Institution, and Vice President for Litigation for the Goldwater Institute. Bolick is the author of the recently published book Two-Fer: Electing a President and a Supreme Court. The book shows how many of our most basic freedoms are in the hands of Supreme Court judges appointed by the president. A president’s philosophy regarding free speech, free exercise of religion, ownership of private property, and other essential rights endures far beyond his four to eight years in office because of the life tenure of his Supreme Court nominees.

Tune in Sunday night to KNUS AM 710 from 5 to 8 pm for Backbone Radio. Matt Dunn and Krista Kafer will hit the airwaves with fresh commentary on all things political and cultural.
We have some terrific guests—Dr. William Watson, Professor of History at Colorado Christian University and former linguist with US Military Intelligence, will talk with us about the Muslim Brotherhood and Egypt’s prospects from becoming a peaceful democracy that respects civil rights. Kafer and Dunn are not too optimistic.
The investigators at Media Trackers, a non-profit, non-partisan investigative watchdog group, recently broke a story showing how Clinton-era environmental regulations restricted the construction of forest access roads and the clearing of combustible brush and trees that helped fuel wildfires this summer. We’ll get the details.
Expert dog trainer Jason Bagley will be our guest to discuss macroeconomics. Kidding! He’ll be on to answer your questions about training your four legged buddy to be a good dog. He’s done marvels for my ornery mutt Bacon.
We’ll also talk about Hank William, Jr.’s new album and its not-so-subtle political message, Tim Tebow’s Best Moment ESPY award, Rolling Stone’s 50th birthday (feeling old yet?), cities going bankrupt, and the recent discovery that taxpayers bankrolled 6,108 new refrigerators bought for Coloradoans with government “stimulus” funds. That gets us steamed!

We’re pleased to have three terrific guests—Craig Green, Senior Fellow in Water Policy at the Independence Institute will discuss his recently published paper Don’t Ask the State to Confiscate Water Rights. Special interests are collecting signatures for a two ballot proposals to confiscate water rights from cities, water districts, farmers, and ranchers. If passed it would put an end to Colorado’s successful 160-year-old system. Water, water everywhere but not a drop to drink?
We will visit with columnist Peter Blake about several recent Colorado issues, including: Our public utilities and the welfare state, the latest on light rail and electric cars, Hickenlooper’s “style” of communication — and also the pressing matter of office space in our state Capitol. Longtime Rocky Mountain News political columnist Peter Blake now writes Thursdays for the Colorado News Agency. Find his weekly column at www.ColoradoNewsAgency.com
Kent Holsinger of Holsinger Law specializes in land, wildlife and water law issues in state and federal court. He’ll talk to us about the promising oil and gas development in the state and efforts to stymie it. Holsinger will also tell us about his recent trip to DC where he testified before Congress on the cost of environmental litigation.
You can expect scintillating talk about the primary results, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes sudden breakup (is Scientology to blame?), the passing of Andy Griffith (is small town America next?), and angry Alec Baldwin’s potential bid for NYC mayor. And we’ll still be hammering away on the Obamacare/Obamatax disaster foisted upon America last week.

**Tune in to Backbone Radio with Matt Dunn and Krista Kafer this Sunday evening 5-8pm** **710am KNUS in Denver, 1460am KZNT in Colorado Springs**
As we head into the July 4th celebration of our freedoms, do we have less to celebrate this year?
Though the wildfires continue to wreak havoc on our state, we know we will overcome the flames.
But on the heels of the egregious Obamacare ruling – yes, it must be said – we do have less to celebrate.
We need to admit the plain truth of the week — Obama won, freedom lost.
Backbone host Dr. Matt Dunn is NOT amused – not amused by the Roberts Supreme Court, by the upcoming largest tax increase in American history, by the future trajectory of our health care system. Clearly, we need to talk.
And as we do so, we’re pleased to be joined by three distinguished guests in our Sunday evening conversation.
We will talk with Tom Tancredo about the events of the past week – Obamacare, Obama’s recent push for amnesty, and the Rocky Mountain Foundation’s plans to file suit against Metro State.
We will talk with Professor Tom Krannawitter, scholar of the American Founding, who will join us in studio for a full hour’s discussion of what July 4th meant in 1776, and what it means today.
Also, political dynamo Tyler Houlton of Compass Colorado will be on-board to put these momentous events in perspective.
There is much to celebrate this July 4th, but there’s also much to discuss. With co-host Krista Kafer taking a night off, Matt Dunn will be joined by mike-partner Jude Sandoval to help carry the torch for liberty.
The next election just got a lot more important. We’ve got our work cut out for us in November — and the work starts now.
Tune in this Sunday, from 5-8pm, and feel free to join the conversation by calling 303-696-1971.

Tune in Sunday night to KNUS AM 710 from 5 to 8 pm for Backbone Radio for hard hitting commentary on all things political and cultural. Joshua Sharf will once again join Krista Kafer while regular co-host Matt Dunn takes a family break. Sharf, as many of you know, is the brilliant pen behind View From a Height and Whosaidyousaid.
We’re pleased to have two terrific guests- CO Secretary of State Scott Gessler will talk about his efforts to stop voter fraud. He’s working on putting an end to voting by illegal immigrants in Colorado elections. He requested the US Department of Homeland Security verify citizenship for some 4,500 registered voters. Not surprisingly, there’s been a delay. Bureaucratic inefficiency or something more devious?
We’ll also hear from Leslie White, state director for Winning with Women, on how conservative women can get more involved in this critical election. This is one of those elections we need all hands on deck.
Additionally you can expect some cutting edge commentary on the week’s hottest issues: the President’s disregard for immigration law, the possible impact of Europe’s woes on our own sluggish economy, the Veepstakes, Eric Holder’s playing Fast & Furious with Congress and more.
